He's Behind You - 11 Gay Pantomimes by Jon Bradfield & Martin Hooper

£24.95Price

“Screamingly funny, utterly filthy and unexpectedly moving. The Stag Pantos have, in a short time, become a genuine institution and a highlight of loyal audiences’ Christmases. Literate, clever and oddly beautiful little gems - they really are, in a crowded field, the fairest of them all” - Mark Gatiss

The acclaimed scripts of Above The Stag Theatre’s pantomimes for adults are being published for the first time. Written by Jon Bradfield and Martin Hooper, these festive shows place queer characters front and centre in popular fairytales, myths and adventures, combining wit, wonder and social satire with the best traditions of the great British panto.

Celebrating a decade of laughter, and published appropriately in time for Christmas, He’s Behind You! 11 Gay Pantomimes includes the scripts of reimagined classic stories such as Cinderella, Treasure Island, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. The most recent, Pinocchio: No Strings Attached, completed its run of 55 sold-out performances in January 2020.

Generously illustrated with original production photos, the book features a foreword by The Stage’s theatre critic and journalist Paul Vale, and each script is introduced by the authors.

“Despite being savagely funny, very adult and very queer, Jon and Martin’s pantomimes have huge heart. I haven’t missed one for years. They are literally my favourite thing about Christmas”

- Matthew Todd

“Panto dream team Jon Bradfield and Martin Hooper”

- Time Out

“Bradfield and Hooper are masters of their craft”

- Gay Times

“Shamelessly romantic and filled with warmth, somehow managing to champion the LGBT+ lifestyle, while at the same time lampooning it mercilessly... Bradfield and Hooper are a writing team that deserve to be top-of-the- bill” - Paul Vale, critic and journalist for The Stage
